The Polls Close Nov. 5th at 8:00pm. Stay On City Hall Decisions Regarding Development. It's not their city, it's ours.
This website is intended to educate South Pasadena residents on the 'opposing' position on the complex and far-reaching implications of Measure SP.
The opposing arguments on Measure SP have been underrepresented: The City of South Pasadena, sitting Councilmembers, and taxpayer-funded organization(s) have been actively promoting support for the measure, and influencing the South Pasadena constituency.
It’s important to do your own research. The “NO ON SP” position is rooted in two clear principles: preserving community voting rights on building height limits to reflect the strong will of South Pasadena residents, and ensuring that any future height standards are clearly defined and transparent.
The Ballot Measure Language is Misleading: The City faced a lawsuit challenging the ballot's title and description as misleading. This case led to mediation and minor revisions to the ballot text. While the language was updated, the adjustments made were minimal, leaving concerns about clarity and transparency.
The Opposing Position to Measure SP is about keeping the height limit vote with the residents, NOT about 'stopping development'. Most 'NO' voters are ready for appropriate and well planned development; but in a transparent way.
The vote on building heights is the balance necessary to keep city hall in alignment with the residents of South Pasadena. Pro-development or not, South Pasadena voters lose their power on building height approvals to city hall & city council members.
“Why are we asking you to VOTE NO on the so-called “South Pasadena Neighborhood Preservation, Local Control” measure?
Because instead of preservation, this measure eliminates our voter-approved height limit!
The Language on your ballot is misleading. The truth can be found in official City documents stating that passing this measure would result in ‘the repeal of the current height limit.’
Our coalition of homeowners, renters, and community advocates says VOTE NO! This measure does NOT encourage sensible housing development. Instead, it’s a blank check for the City Council to green light massive housing projects.
This measure WILL NOT promote the character or affordability of neighborhoods. Instead, it will promote profit-driven development that dwarfs anything ever built in South Pasadena.
This measure could cause thousands of residents to lose their apartments, condos and houses when they are torn down for new development. The City has not quantified the number of residents who will be directly impacted by eviction.
South Pasadena’s current height limit was approved by voters. That means our limit cannot be overridden by the City Council. This measure eliminates that restriction and without it, the City Council will have unfettered discretion to set new height limits benefitting developers, not residents.
The City has no plan for crowded classrooms, traffic, wear and tear on our roads and water system, or any regard for thousands of people who could lose their homes.
VOTE NO to demand that the City do its homework, honestly and transparently, before asking us to repeal our voter-approved height limit.
VOTE NO to reject the misleading way this measure is being presented to the voters. We know California has a housing crisis. Eliminating our voter-approved height limit will not solve it. Sky high development could make it worse. VOTE NO on this measure.” Voting on Measure SP: On the ballot November 5, 2024
This is a complex issue. A 'NO' Vote is not the easy path, but is it worth your vote on building heights? They need YOU out of the way to build-baby-build.
